I have no idea what this is! It's the first time I've seen one; it is growing in our wooded area in dappled shade, is about 5" high, has no leaves at all, just a stem which had about 6 flowers on but they are just going over.

Dunno MMM, but it looks a little like an anemone. But not enough to say for certain - and of course that would have leaves. Some sort of orchid? - but again not quite right.
Absolutely lovely though.

Thing is it has no leaves - plants like that are very interesting! I guess it might send up leaves later. I may have to get my wildflower ID book out cos you can look up flowers going by how many petals it has plus other things, but it's all a bit gobbledigook botanically in terms of doing the searching for something (and I didn't listen in biology at school

) so I usually spend an hour just going through it page after page! Oh well may have to have a look.
It may well have been around before but as it's a dry spring we have hardly mown in our woodland paths and clearings so I guess this is how it has had a chance to bloom. It was so pretty a few days ago with lots of flowers out.

Ah - just been out to look again with book - it does have two yellowing grass like leaves and the flowers have gone over.
So I am pretty sure it is Star of Bethlehem (Ornithogalum umbellatum) which should have grass like leaves and short lived flowers.
Look at this cos this is so like the plant flowers going over.
and the flowers
Well hopefully that is solved now.
