Ammonium sulphamate

This used to be sold as a herbicide but is now only available as a compost accelerator.
I was just wondering, if I accidentally spilt some on growing areas how long would it be before I could replant?

Is there anything I could do to reverse the effects on this area to make it re-plantable straight away?
I don't usually spill things on the garden - but accidents do happen

Three to four months, apparently, GA - effectively a season, I would think. On the other hand, if you have a bad weed infestation, what else would you have been doing with that area? Get it accidentally spilt is what I say.

Thanks Mike, that's what we read, although as all the info seems to come from the same source I wondered if anyone had different information/experience.
The area in question is a seriously thistle-infested polytunnel - we didn't use it last year. As the tomatoes are desperately in need of going in I've opted for plan B - send OH in with a spade

Good call. From what I've read it leaves the soil acid and fairly toxic to plant life for several months before breaking down completely - so no use in an active polytunnel. You'll be seeing the thistles for a while though I reckon!

I've used AS and it was good (interestingly,once recommended by the evil Soil Association),so I expect it's non availability is more down to the cost of testing procedures required these days ,rather than any poor effect it might have on your soil .
Presumably the nettles etc arent 10 ft high in your tunnel this time of year couldn't you just carpet the floor of the tunnel and grow your toms in rings for the year?

It's all cleared - for now! OH looked like a cooked lobster but hey, someone has to suffer for our tomatoes
