Hi all, I've just made a batch of Nettle beer in a demijohn, so now the muslin I used is covered in lemon rind and bits. What is the best way to clean muslin. Would it be best to do it by hand?

I would leave it to soak for a while, then wash it by hand, the fibres in muslin are quite loose, so not too much boiling water, more gentle agitation, the stains will remain, but no worries, they will be replaced by stains from the latest brew, this time throw the muslin straight into water after use, if it all looks too disgusting to use, sieve through a cotton tee shirt.

Don't know if there are different grades of muslin(would put little round bubble bloke shrugging his shoulders here,but dont know how,and dont like them much anyhow)but we use fresh muslin here every day to filter the goatmilk.When there's a goodly pile of used muslin,it all gets slung in the washing machine.....works for us... BW.

I throw mine in a boil wash with the tea towels - doesn't seem to do it any harm.

I tend to sling mine in one of the various buckets of VWP I inevitably seem to have lying around. Needs a good rinse after though...
