So the greenhouse survived the move [off at least]. The roof was left on and side panes came out ok. I plan on giving it all a really good wash this weekend before or as it gets rebuilt. will get more clips for rebuild.

When the glass was taken out it had been puttied into place ! Is this necessary or normal ? I had assumed they would be 'loose'. Should this be repeated and what with ? I think I have some bathroom silicon stuff in a 'gun' thingy. Would that do ? or can I get putty in those tubes for a gun thingy ? It isnt an exposed site or anything, pretty sheltered from wind actually. Argh, sadly this is an expensive job I hadnt planned on. But it will be good when it is finished and I get garden back from builder and can start planting a few things.

You will get a lot of alternative answers for this one but here's my experience. I used all sorts of the silicone type stuff from the pound shop which in itself was ok as it was the price I was loooking at. However the glass leaked like a tap and no matter how much silicone stuff I used it still leaked. Now some water from a roof is ok but this was like a tap. I had to take all the glass out and re seal it using putty. I bought a few tubs of 2kg size from the builders merchant but it was a very big greenhouse so I ended up going to a glaziers and buying a 25 kg tub for £30. In the end wI got mine done which is like a 4mx3m conservatory size and my neighbough got his alton 8ft x 10ft done aswell.

Personally,I've never used any putty like stuff in an ally framed GH.I'm not sure where all this leaking is going on,twixt glass and frame? in which case the glass aint been cut to fit,anyhow,no greatharm,saves a bit of watering!
If you've got to use some putty like stuff,the tuby gun things are as cheap as chips.
I'm not averse to a few draughts as I find summer ventilation more of a problem than pinning polythene inside to double glaze in winter.

I thought all ally greenhouses came with rubber-type sealing strips to go between the glass and the frame? At least that's what ours has and it doesn't leak at all (except through the missing pane ).

The glass in my greenhouse is just clipped in place with rubber strips between the glass and the frame.
