I have a couple of pics that I want to get onto plain fabrics for a couple of craft ideas I want to do ... is there a paper that I can print them onto and iron onto the fabric .............. or am I living in a fantasy world.

ive used it before and honestly found it a bit rubbish but then i have gone from screen printing photos onto fabric to this

I always want to try screenprinting but the thought of having to buy all the equipment puts me off. I love screenprinted things though.

the only thing you really need to buy for screen printing is a squeegee and some medium - to extend the drying time of acrylic paint/ink.

i use a hand made screen - old canvas (for painting just to clarify!) frame with polyester voile type fabric stretched over it - cost £2 a metre and if you started with doing 10x8 inch images you wouldnt need that much. i used gaffer tape to put a 'frame' around the mesh so i have a nice straight edge when printing. this can be replaced cheaply if it comes off - but in 2 years mine hasn't!

stencils can be made from thick scrap paper or flat 'stuff' - leaves etc.

i use my regular acrylic paint for printing - with medium added so it doesn't dry out and that is sufficient for my short print runs. ( i use the same stuff for lino printing, doing monoprints and when i had access to a press - collotype prints although traditonally these use oil based inks)

you can buy a basic kit for around £20 now and from what i can tell they are good enough to get you started...

the only problem is when you decide to do some t-shirt/fabric prints - then use the ink and photo transfer stuff to fix a design to a screen does it get expensive.

so YES yu can buy paper especially for transferring pictures onto fabric.
its called transfer paper for fabric. :P
quilt shops also sell these quite often....depending on where you live.

Oh thanks ... I will check out at the quilt shop first then as I have to go into there on Saturday .. then I might have a look at Staples as I can actually get my hands on the pack ... maybe ... or even Rymens... so my world is not complete fantasy

My daughter did an art project and we found her some of this paper I think it was in T***o but very expensive to my mind something like £7.00 for 4 sheets but worked well once she hd mastered the art of it (pardon the pun!)

You can buy the transfer paper as described. But you can see the backing and it looks a bit plasticy. You can wash it which is useful.

The other option is to get some freezer paper off the internet or from Hobby Graft. As long as you have an inkjet printer you can print directly onto fabric yourself. Iron the freezer paper onto the fabric to stiffen it and then print directly onto the fabric. It works well but you are limited by the width of your printer. It's not washable though.

Done it ... I got transfer paper from Rymans and it was very easy... yes it does look a little plastic like but I want this for making pockets on childrens aprons .. so I can get away with it

Will post a picture when project done...

I paid Rymans price but it is available on the net cheaper ..

I think there's a recipe for something you can soak it in to make it more longer lasting and washable, I think I found it on Craftster but I can't find it now. I did find this though;
