Hi all!!

I am new to all this, and currently have the use of windowsills, a small portable greenhouse and containers. I was just wondering what fruit and veg people think would make a good starter selection?

Currently I have:
Lettuce
Chives
Cherrybelle Radishes
White Lisbon Spring Onions
Cayenne Pepper

Thanks in advance for your help!!

sounds like a good selection to me :) and the chilies too because you have a little greenhouse.
if you read up on soil improvement and what feed you might need for the chilies.
sure others will chime in.

You might like to add a few more herbs - things like basil and coriander are easy to grow and quite attractive plants that make a huge difference to your cooking and salads.

And if you've got room on your windowsill how about sprouting a few pulses and seeds for a very quick and tasty salad crop - less than a week. Chickpeas are my favourite but you can do all sorts of other things - a quick google will give you loads of ideas. There are loads of recipes to use them in cooking too.

Tomatoes grow perfectly well on a south facing windowsill, just make sure you get a container variety like Totem or Gartenpearl.
Carrots grow very well in a deepish container, try Amsterdam Forcing, I have some growing right now in a trough on my windowsill, destined to go outside when the weather improves.
Other container crops to try are dwarf runner beans, dwarf French beans and a courgette or butternut squash would grow well in a growbag on a patio.
Whatever you decide to grow, good luck.

Agree tomatoes are an easy starter plant and easy to grow. Should start well on your south facing window and with the greenhouse you should get an early crop
