is it possible at all to grow a rhubarb in a container? if so what size should container be?

Not a prob,but you'll need a decent sized container.(say minimum 25litres) old tin bath or similar with holes drilled in the bottom.Then a layer of crocks them a half and half mix of decent soil and well rotted FYM or similar(compost,spent mushroom compost,anything cheap and available) Plant the crown as you would in open ground,keep up the watering.In a harsh wintercover the crown with straw or similarAND insulate the container with an old fleece or similar.Top up the container each spring with compost or whatever,and every 3rd or 4th backend when it's died back tip out the crown clean it up,and repot in fresh stuff.

I dug up and divided the rhuabarb in the back garden of the house I bought last year. It wasn't a huge plant (no idea on how long it had been there and how it had been fed) but the roots were massive. Transplanted into my front garden, in four chunks, each is now showing healthy leaves.

Therefore, I think it would work in a BIG container - maybe one that sits behind other containers?
