Hi,

I am looking to put in some kind of 12v power supply to a little hut I have.
It would only be used for one or two days/nights a month.
My plan is to have a couple of batteries to run lights etc.

I am a complete novice and am looking for an instruction manual.

Has anyone bought this book... "Do It Yourself 12 Volt Solar Power: A Do It Yourself Guide (Simple Living) by Michel Daniek", and if so, is it any good?

Are there any other books you can recommend?

in this months permaculture magazine there is a book reviewed about 12 volt lights. i'll dig it out and see whatit's about.

Don't know anything else about it but it gives you a choice.

Hello Peter, The design of your installation is dependent on what equipment you plan to power, and for what length of time. A couple of batteries whether charged in situ or remotely, running one or two 12 volt led lights from time to time will be fine, but more load means more complexity. I haven't although I've seen it recommended several times (some of them on here I think).

Why not see if your library can source it for you before deciding to buy it?

No, buy it anyway and ask your local library to get it - or donate a copy. It's cheap, you'd be helping out the author and besides, you wouldn't want to return it to the library, I guarantee it! It is a superb little book; if you're constantly tipping away at solar projects, you'll often refer to it.

Buy everyone you know a copy for Xmas! Here's the contact.
