Just in case anybody is interested, the subtropics are defined by Wiki as -

A subtropical region should have at least eight months with a mean temperature of 10 °C (50.0 °F) or above. The subtropics are the geographical and climatical zone of the Earth immediately north and south of the tropical zone, which is bounded by the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, at latitudes 23.5°N and 23.5°S. Here in Shrops,we've got sub-arctic tundra...definatley worth avoiding!

I think Odsox would be amused to know he lives in a sub tropical region. Over 10C for 8 months of the year is most of non continental climate Europe isn't it? I define sub tropical as not having frosts and Mediterranean climate is mostly definitately not sub tropical!! It can be absolutely bloody freezing in winter, even right on the coast.

We have the occasional frost in Cyprus but it's still subtropical. Have just returned to the UK for a short period it's bloody freezing.
