Hi all,
any advice greatly appreciated, my track record with grapevines is c**p so when one came up on freecycle locally I bid and got it, now this one is going the same way as the rest.
It isabout 6" high maybe 6months old with 5 (were) green now turning yellow at the edges leaves, it is in soil should I try compost? I have watered and fed it (general purpose) should it be dry or fed with erracacious feed. Can anyone can help save my poor seedling please
Becks x

Dont feed it with anything at present. How big is the pot ? when it has lost all it's leaves look to repot in multi pupose or J.I.3 (better).Have you had this from a garden centre? (it wouldn't want to go from a warm enviroment straight out into the frozen wastes of Sussex)This is all sounding complex which it isn't,pot it on keep it out of the frost (as it's only 6'') look to plant out in the spring.

I've usually got my tongue in my cheek(it takes up the space where my teeth used to be).Yep leaf drop is good,as a rule, people tent to over pot,a 6'' plant would want to be in a 1litre pot Maybe (and others might disagree) to get this off really well,it might be an idea for the grape to grow on potted next year too (Obviously potting up again this time next year).Anyhow go to the library(while you still have one)and check out the RHS guide to Fruit Growing,it's really practical re pruning etc.Good luck, here's to Chateaux Becks 2015.

grape vines look dead for most of the year, but it should be fine, if its in a pot keep it frost free over winter an re pot or plant out in the spring ,

my vine - which is pushing forty years old and grew from a poked in stick my dad brought home - has lost all its leaves and the grapes are almost ripe; perfectly normal. you might want to acclimatise it over the summer [if we get one next year] and then wrap the pot in bubble wrap for next year perhaps with a big plastic bag over the top if it hasn't grown humegously. vines thrive happily enough in poor soil, so don't kill it with kindness! ericaceous soil is best. which is what i have naturally!!! if it's come from a warm environment to a warm environment do be sure not to let the poor thing sit in a draught; i'd personally gradually move it to a cool, but not cold location. if you have central heating do make sure it doesn't get too dry. i've never kept vines indoors and mine had lived in Tuscany before a colleague brought back a cutting for dad wrapped in a wet hanky [before the days of fuss about transporting plants] so i'd say they ought to be pretty hardy.
