First time - green tomato chutney

Post: # 210493Post JeremyinCzechRep »

My tomatoes decided they didn't want to turn red this year so sat waiting to drop off and rot. While most of them were still in reasonable condition, I picked them (about 10 kilos) and made two batches of green tomato chutney based on my Spicy pumpkin chutney recipe. What a pleasant surprise! What would have been compost turned out to be a very tasty chutney. Any other pleasant surprises to report?

I substituted rhubarb for apple in a chutney, and used chilis and ras el hanout spice blend. It was delicious. Definitely one to make again.

I did green tomato chutney too for the first time and also was pleasantly surprised by how nice it is. In fact I tasted a raw green tomato and thought - it tastes like tomato!!! Well how would I know, I've never tried one before!

Mmmm, I love green tomato chutney..... stir a few spoonfuls into a hearty veg soup and it adds such a nice extra depth.
