Has anyone ever been successful in growing a pineapple?

I have had numerous attempts over the years but never been successful. Decided to have one more try.

An old book I have says to cut off the top and take the bottom leaves off to make a stem then to plant it up in moist sand, they say it makes a pretty houseplant and should give you a pineapple within 2 to 3 years. I've put it in the sun room where I can keep it nice and warm and keep a check on its progress.

Does anyone have any other tips please?

Donkey's years ago, I put the top of a pineapple into a saucer of water (as you can do with a carrot top) and kept it in a warm, light place. It did start to grow, but then began to rot. But the practicality was, at least, proved - you can grow a pineapple plant. I have no idea if we have anything like the sunlight hours in this country to actually grow a plant which would produce ripe fruit, though. Best of luck.
