hello...

i'm just starting to get into foraging and had an exciting morning! i found a lot of raspberries and wild strawberries, and some minty stuff:

is it an actual mint and does anyone know what kind? it smells strongly of mint, has a square stem and is quite hairy. it was growing in a damp shaded area. i think it's pretty clearly a mint but i am so paranoid about poisoning myself that i thought i should check with more knowledgeable types before making a pot of tea with it!

any help much appreciated

Well it looks like mint and I'm no expert but if it looks and smells like mint..... but I don't want to say yes go ahead and eat it because I know nothing about 'wild' mint (didn't know it existed) so I'd wait and see if any foragers comment on this thread.

Wild mint is corn mint I think. From what you've said it clearly is a mint and I'm also pretty certain there is nothing that looks, smells and has the stem of mint (all mints have square stems) that is poisonous. Eat it - what's the worst that could happen, a slow and painful death?
