Do straws get mould ? a good few of mine have black patches on them, looks horrible. We havent had a lot of rain - but they are under plastic covers to keep the birds off.
Try netting instead of plastic - or just get some more plants so you've got enough for the birds too
and a bit of straw under the plants to keep the strawberries off the soil off the soil. Should do the trick I think.
