Dandelion root coffee
Just seen the syrup thread.
Coincidentally I have been making Dandelion coffee.
Dig up loads of dandelions and cut off the roots to use.
Wash them and dry them then put them in the oven to roast. I did it on 200 degrees c but that might have been a little hot .
When they are brittle and dark brown, grind them up to powder.
Put in a coffee percolator or cafatierre and make coffee.
About a teaspoon per cups worth.
It tastes very like (but not exactly the same as)coffee and even smells like it.

NOW then... this I really must try. I can't drink coffee either - it makes me feel very ill.
Blimey - so many things that I need to make that have been featured on SSISH!! I WILL get a round tuit one day.

If it looks and smells like cofee he might not notice. a lot of caffine realted burst of energy as entierly in the drinkers heads.* try it and see i he can tell the difference.Millymollymandy wrote:So that's why I'm so grumpy! Actually with the price of coffee it really might be worth having a go at this - however I think the OH needs his caffeine to wake him up in the morning!
*They done similar tests with decaff and normal coffee.

Yes, I think it's more the smell of coffee (real coffee, of course) than the caffeine that gives me the extra zap... However, I do detect a massive difference between coffee and burnt dandelion root. The latter just doesn't do it for me. No way.

When staying with relatives, i am never sure if the morning brew is caffinated or decaf until about 11:30 when i get a splitting headache and have to go lie down. Of course, my addiction may be an extreme case.Wormella wrote: If it looks and smells like cofee he might not notice. a lot of caffine realted burst of energy as entierly in the drinkers heads.* try it and see i he can tell the difference.

I think that caffein withdrawal symptoms does affect some people. i work as a carpenter and used to drink tea and coffie at work all day (as some builders do. LOL) and used to get really bad headaches at diffirent parts of the day when i had no caffein at all. Then i decided to stop drinkin coffie at work the headaches went away.
