Just stumbled across a four-part Youtube video from a guy who made an impressive apple press. The materials are cheap (approx 40 Euros), & could be brought in the high st.

we made our own apple press a few years ago

more recently we invested in a 'bought' press - as we press apples every year and its much smaller etc - but the homemade one worked fine
