Perennial vegetables?

Hi, a few years ago I heard that there is plenty of veg you can grow that comes back each year. I like growing things from seed but I also get frustrated and impatient.
I would like asparagus but you can't crop it in the first year!
What is available and from where?
I hear there is a perennial broccoli. Has anyone tried growing this?
Any tips and advice would be welcome regarding perennial veg!

perpetual spinach lasts for ages if you dont let it go to seed. Keep cropping it back and it lasts at least a couple of years and grows quicly from seed anyway! Chickens love it if there is too much for you and yours.

Jerusalem Artichokes, Chinese Artichokes and cardoon are the three that I can think of off the top of my head

Not only are there perenial vegetables, butdon't forget that there are lots of things that will self seed quite readily - parsnip, beetroot, spinach, salsify, rocket, etc, etc

Hi Keaniebeanie. Yes, I've had a look at this site but there is very little information about each plant and what to do with it.
I'll just have a look around for broccoli and the spinach.

I forgot Jerusalem artichokes...they come back even if you think you have harvested every last one of them. My family call them f...tychokes due to one of the side effects of eating them!!
We do love them though.

On the subject of artichokes. I learnt something new yesterday and thought that I would share, those pesky chinese artichokes which are very nice but a fiddle to clean...I have just purchased a victorian gardening book and it says that when you are digging them up you should have a bucket of water beside you and put them straight in, then when you get them to the kitchen drain them and wrap ina teatowel with salt and then rub vigerously, this gets all the grit off and the skins in one go.
Sounds bloomin good to me
having tried to clean and peel them myself
