... find a replacement part for a stanley knife

I grudge buying a whole new stanley knife so I just want the part that pushes down to slide the blade in and out.
It is on a classic 99 model (the basic, what I would call 'old fasioned' model) and it is really bugging me that it is clearly the part that would fail (the rest being either replaceable blade or the cast metal handle) so there MUST be a way of buying just that bit? no?
I tried fleabay, but no luck....
any thoughts?

I've looked all over, Ann. You can get any blade you like, and you can get the screw which holds the two parts of the body together - but the retraction lever doesn't appear to be listed as a spare.
You can get a whole new knife for £3.99 if you look around - but as the p&p is another £5 you might not think that worthwhile!!!

Thanks MKG, I might try that customer service number later to find out.
It isn't so much the money... just reluctant to be part of this throwaway society.... I'm sure I can pick another one up in any hardware store for around £8.

Propitiate them AnnPan and you might get a new bit sent out free.

How annoying. Yeah I'd agree with ringing them up and asking, there's no harm in it and they might send you the part out even if it isn't listed as being for sale anywhere.
Failing that, do you have Freecycle or Freegle there? Someone might have an old knife with a broken blade that has the bit you need on it? Might be worth a go.

Get the blade bit to stick out then tape it all up to make it un retractable. because the blade will then be stuck out use a wine cork to protect the blade BUT MAKE SURE IT IS KEPT ON A HIGH SHELF OR IN ADRAW TO STOP LITTLE FINGERS GETTING TO IT. [ so here endeth the elf and safety message]

I totally sympathise! Its SO annoying when wee things like that break and everyone just wants you to buy a whole new one! I'd give the manufacturer a call first, and make sure you confuse the receptionist who answers the phone 'cause then she'll put you straight through to the workshop guys! (We use this method all the time, and its got me a free replacement crooklock and a free new spindle for our peppermill, amongst other things!)
Freecycle or freegle sound like a good idea too, I'm sure someone will have something lying around! In fact, i'll just go and have a look in our shed.....
