Last year someone gave me two Kiwi fruit plants from Wilkinsons, one turned out to be a stick! The other one raced away in my green house but no sign of any fruit. It died down and I cut it back, it survived the winter and is now racing away again and is coverd in small white flowers. What should I expect? Should it go outside or stay in the green house? Stay in the plot or put it in the ground? your thoughts please!

G'Day Goldfang,

Kiwifruit are Dioecious - you need a male and female plant to get fruit. I suspect that is why you were given two  . While I haven't grown them myself, I suspect that the female was the stick and the male survived and the white flowers you describe will not provide any fruit. So........go get a female and happy reproducing!

I the same problem :? only the one that survived was the male plant, no flowers. It has engulfed the one side of my chicken house, (40 feet by 20feet) and still growing. It is a five year old plant, I need a female to make it happy, and maybe it will stop climbing the wall.

You can get a smaller kiwi fruit called jenny in the Uk now, and I'm pretty sure it's self fertile.

I found a place selling them for £5 each by doing the google search, but I have beans growing where it will go, so maybe next year.

I had a self-fertile one that I bought in France. Unfortunately it died in the heat last summer so didnt get to see any fruit.
