I have had terrible trouble with my chickens lately, the sods keep breaking out, they have a huge run yet no matter how I reinforce it they still escape, it's the hilines we have eight and their really strong agressive chooks who won't quit. Every time they get out they go straight for my lettuce beds and rip everyone out. It happened the other day so I planted more seedlings in another raised bed but they escape tonight and ripped them all out, so I have replanted again, but it's beginning to get me down, they are good layers but anymore of this and they might be dinner instead.

I am planning to build them a new larger run on the far side of the garden so any suggestions about escape proofing it would be gratefully received

I don't have any more answers than Susiegee, if their wings are clipped and the fence is high enough, you've done pretty much all you can.

I keep a lot of hens and generally don't have too many problems with escapes, but I used to have one hen who seemed to be able to escape no matter what!

She got nicknamed McQueen and I put up a little sign on the pen she was in saying "Stalag 27", eventually she escaped once too often and a fox had her, but I never did find out how she was getting out.

I'm sure one day part of the field will collapse and i'll fall into a chicken sized tunnel, complete with pick axes and little railway tracks.
