R.I.P PSB

Went out the the veg plot today to inspect the action the rabbits have been up to.

The veg plot is surrounded by 0.9m high (and dug in below ground) rabbit wire fence) within a garden with a similar fence round it - regularly inspected for holes/burrows.

We had 14 inches (yes! - I know I cleared it fro the drive) of snow last weekend - most of which is still here.
Never accounted for the fact that this raised the now very hungry rabbits up 36 cm - and weighed down the shrubs so when the crust formed (has been -6-8 each night this week) on the snow they could almost just walk in!!!.

Anyway - the pretty mounds of snow covering the PSB had been burrowed into - their contents completely eaten and the mounds remain - ran out of light for a photo - will try tomorrow.

Have to laugh really - last year we just protected the PSB within the plot - it is obviously VERY tasty...... :(

All but one of mine are pretty much lost to the frost. First time I've seen then succumb and we had -8C last year too. :dontknow:

Do rabbits jump over 2 foot high fences?

@Milly

Oh yes - I watched (from a prone position as I had been chasing it at the time) as a rabbit took a leg up from a stone and hopped over a 2ft 6 bit of fence.
Doing some research suggested ideally 1.0m minimum - but with std height 0.9m mesh this makes it difficult to tuck under the ground and out to prevent burrowing and have it higher than 0.5m!
Stitching 2 rolls together works though.

I reckon that as there is (still) very little veg of any sort (other than the trees) showing through our snow - after over a week now - they are starving.

Heads up, peeps. Even rabbits have to eat. I know, I know - but next time you're tucking into a rabbit, you can remember your PSB with fondness.

It's too late now but at least it's a good pointer for anyone who gets deep snow and has rabbits around, to keep some chicken wire handy so that you can go out and pop a temporary fence around anything special.

I thought someone was waving goodbye to the Public Sector Borrowing requirement. Unlikely as Brown is making that, I'm still in the dark about what PSB really is. :scratch:
