mushroom help

long time viewr first time poster
can anybody help me with these mushrooms i found today
they are very similar to parasols but are very short also have pink gills and older one has brown gills,found growing near maple tree and also pine nearby in grassy area, there was alot of them probly 15+
no real smell just mushroomy earthy smell and no bruising or bleeding when cut
any help mush appriciated

maybe brown wood mushroom or shaggy parasol?

I think these are
Agaricus augustus ("The Prince"). Tasty. :)

Definately not a shaggy parasol - they are much more shaggy and have white gills. I don't know which species "brown wood mushroom" refers to - I know wood mushrooms, scaly wood mushrooms and blushing wood mushrooms but I think this is their cousin.

oh yes looks very much like 'the prince' it isnt in either of my books!

Agreed, these look like Prince mushrooms to me. They taste great and smell wonderful. One of my favourite mushrooms.

Then you need a better book! "Mushrooms" by Roger Phillips is the best, currently on special offer from Amazon.

thanks for your help geoff and fun guy
a friend came round this morning who knows alot more about mushroom than me
it was the prince mushroom and was great for breakfast!
