The purveyors of GMOs promised it couldn't happen. Monsanto sued and bankrupted its victims when it happened with canola in the past. This escape is so widespread, it is unlikely that anyone can try to sue the victims. Perhaps this time, the victims can sue the perpetrators.
Though Monsanto's "terminator" GM gene is the subject of much criticism, there is something to be said for it. If we are going to have GMOs inflicted upon us, every single GMO should have a terminator gene to prevent escapes like this one from reproducing. At least the farmers would only have one season's crop contaminated.
