Can anyone think of a good way to calm the pain from OH's wizzys coming in. He is taking paracetamol and ibuprofen at alternate 2 hour intervals and is still feeling in incredible achey pain.

I have read about a simple salt water mouth rinse which might help what about a certain food, like ginger? or cloves? or ice cream? (we have yet to have dinner, so if there is something specific I can cook that might help?

I want to help him, it's horrid to watch somone you love in pain :(

I don't know of anything you can cook but I put a couple of drops of clove oil on a cotton bud and apply it directly to the tooth, or make up a mouthwash with clove oil and peppermint (makes it taste nice!).

Half a dozen cloves, just kept in the mouth helps. It's what I use with toothache but then I don't like using paracitamol etc.

Whiskey!! You are supposed to just swish it around the painful areas, but it would be such a shame to waste it.

Thanks for all the tips, he was up in the middle of the night taking ibuprofen, poor boy.

I just got a rather giddy email from him at work though, he went to the pharmacist who has given him cocodamol... I think the pain is gone for now :)

Annpan,

My mom always suggest a "good durim" for situations like this. Basically it means get out the whiskey  .

Seriously, put some on a cotton wool ball and chomp down on it. It's a good antiseptic and numbs the pain. Follow that up with a little drink (however you like it: straight, heated with water or sugar [my favourite!], or with ice). That step is not medical, it's just nice :drunken: .

Get well soon,
Martina
