Not sure if "livestock" is the right place for this, but...... if you are considering putting koi in your pond, take a tip from me & don't bother putting floating plants or lillies in your pond. The greedy b*****s will eat them in no time. We bought a lilly for £17 & were then given 4 koi (big buggers........ about £300 apiece), we had 4 flowers before the koi trashed the plant...... now we have a lot of stalks, but some smug-looking koi!!!

We had a pond at our former place with waterlily and koi. The only time they seemed to bother the lily plants was spawning season. Then they would flop up over them to stick their eggs on. What else is in the pond for them to feed on? Big ones will eat a lot in summer and nothing at all during the cold months.

Sorry about your lilies.

there was plenty of floating hyacynths, & lettuce........... but not any more! They get fed with pellets twice a day, & they are always cleaning algae from the sides. Sometimes we give 'em blue cheese, garlic, raw vegetables(chopped), etc. But oh no!..........if it's a nice-looking plant then it has to be consumed.....(think i'll have fish n' chips tomorrow!).
