Walking the dog local today and came across these,i know the first one is a raspberry(and very nice the were too )
think no 2 is a plum(tried a pinky looking one and it was really sweet)
don't know what number 3 is,looks like a small lime...
number 4 is either a crab apple or a cherry
any help greatly appreciated especially number 3 as i'd never seen one of these before
also got my first blackberry today,only one on the bush,sweetest one i've ever tasted

You need to cut your fruits in half round the middle (not end to end if you see what I mean!) so that you can have a look for seeds. I suspect that all of them (apart from the raspberry obviously!) are varieties of plum but can't be sure without looking inside. We have a lot of early fruiting cherry type plum trees in our local hedgerows, some I know as greengages, others as cherry or mirabelle plums. They're a very mixed bunch but all are good for eating and cooking if you catch them at the right moment. If the last one has white flesh & 5 seeds inside it's a crab apple.

I would suggest avoiding the lime-like fruit myself because I think it may be showing symptoms of a virus or disease causing it to grow with that knobbly skin but I do think it's probably still a plum.

I don't think its a quince ... they are more pear shaped ... I just think it something that doesnt look well ... Good idea about cutting in half to see the seeds ... never thought of that.

It might also help to have your location (at least country), so we know what it could possibly be that grows wild on your neck of the woods!

The withering looking one is from a tree that is probably suffering from Silver Leaf disease.
It affects all members of the plum family including sloes (blackthorn).
If you look at the leaves they have a distinctly silvery sheen to them and any fruit ends up cracked withery and distorted.

I have never been able to grow plums for that reason, everywhere I've lived has been in an area that has the disease, and it quickly spreads by spores in the wind.
I would love a tree full of Victoria plums.

Thanks for the repliesI live in south manchester,UK.Were all the trees are,they have been planted when they built new houses on the primary school i used to goto,quite a few plum trees have been planted,and a few cherry trees along with all the usual silver birch a few hazel trees that have got nuts on this year(will have to get there before the squirrels),there's plenty of old hazel trees which i can remember playing in when i were little 30+ years ago, and were i cut a few walking sticks from in the winter.Only noticed the raspberries the other day when i passed a lady eating her fill of raspberries,just need to go back a weekend when i'm off work and cut back a few overgrown bushes to get to the rest of the raspberries,plus the usual blackberries,plenty of rosehips and elders(had my champagne fix for this year )
Will get some more and split them to have a look at what seeds are in them good idea that,thanks:thumbleft:

after a bit of rooting about on the net,found out 2 & 4 are plums.N.o.4 being a cherry plum,the trees are leaning over there that full,got myself a kg worth today after finding a recipe for jam(didn't realise how easy it was),so it's plum jam,and i've 2 tubs of apple sauce from last year in the freezer,so maybe have a go at apple and plum jam.....

How exciting! I am hoping to find some interesting fruit trees of some description round here.

second down looks like the Cherry Plum in my garden (mine ripen yellow - and make good jam
third looks like an underipe walnut
fourth looks very apple -like

Snapdragon after finding out what n.o.2 & 4 were i also made some jam out of them, very nice it is,and so easy....
Will be making a load more this week as the trees are groaning under the wight of them,so i'll have to do my bit for the enviroment

No. 3 isn't a walnut, they have a green outer husk but it isn't wrinkled and the leaves are completely different. It's something gone off and shrivelled!

That jam bug thing is really catching- I though Jam would be so hard then when you ahve a go the hardest thing is keeping the wasps out of the kitchen (and clearing up the spillages ). Now I jam everything, way more than I can eat
