Sunburnt pigs

Hi,

We got two days of sunshine and the pigs are sunburned! One is particularly bad and is raw red. I made a wallow for them on the first day of sunshine but they don't seem to know how to use it - they came from an intensive farm. Now that the sun has gone she is constantly shivering and I'm not sure how worried I should be - the sunburn is bad like.

Any ideas?

Lotion (really, they have very sensitive skin) an antihistamine (for itches), aspirin for pain? ... call a VET! call a vet, CALL A VET!
IMHO (in my humble opinion)

good luck

definitely a vet :(

in future you could try sun block, we used to use it with a grey horse that was prone to sunburn

Hi,

Well I didn't call a vet in the end. Too expensive and I'm cheap
I eventually got them using the wallow and kept them in shade. I guess the texture of the mud sort of acted like a lotion and prevented them from further burning.

I just wanted to let ye know it worked out ok anyway.

Thanks
