Ive just joined the site, i was flicking around the net and came across a topic on here about hatching, it must have been good as it made me join. lol

Anyway in the topic i was reading it said about sometimes chicks need a little help when they hatch. My question is how long do you leave it before giving this help? Im on day 20 and one egg now has a little hole in it, its been like this now for 4 hours. Reading this other topic, it did mention about putting a few drops of warm water onto the shell now i ive just done this and the egg rolled from side to side, so i know all is good at the moment. How long does it take for a chick to hatch out? ive heard anything upto 24 hrs is this right?
Is it still ok for this chick to start hatching out on day 20 or is it a sign that all is not good?

Sorry for all the questions but this is my first time on hatching, in the past my hens have always done it. Anyone would think im in labour how im acting lol

From what I read on that post you should just leave it be. It can take up to 2 days.... don't interfere.

In my experience they can take a couple of days. They will pick a small hole so thst they can breath. Then they rest for hours before carrying on. Don't interfere as you can disrupt the small blood vessels that feed the chick.

Just be patient.

All is well, my little one hatched in the night and is perfect, just waiting for her to fluff up now.....
