I don't really know the answer, and I guess someone more experienced might come along later. But if I were you, I'd put them on only layers pellets/mash for a couple of weeks and not feed them anything else. If the problem clears up, then you'll know it's diet related. If it doesn't then you have eliminated diet as the cause and can look for other problems. Try a bit of vitamin supplement as well, that seems to sort out any problems in my lot.

I don't know Susie, I've only ever got them in spring or summer. If they are hybrids though surely they'll still come into lay and lay through the winter? Annpan's new girls have just started laying. Oh why don't you go for it!

Our days are still pretty long up here in Scotland... I didn't think for a moment that it was too late to get the girls.

But... I have hybrids so I am unsure as to how much decision they get to make about when their eggs start a-coming. That is kind of the point after all... I expect a few of them to lay right through this winter too.
