I do agree about the next day delivery thing. Or delivery full stop. I do buy stuff by mail order/Internet, but it's a pain getting it delivered. I have tried instructing them to leave parcels with my neighbours but they ignore the instructions and take them back to the depot. The depots seem to be all over the place. At least I live in a large town and most of the delivery companies have depots here. I hate to think what it's like if you live far away from civilisation.

It's much easier to walk down to the High Street and just buy what you want then and there and bring it home with you. Oh hang on, no it's not, there is no High Street anymore.

It's bad, Zoe, and bloody expensive.

I found a real bargain on e-bay - enough lino to do our kitchen and bathroom, really good price and reasonable delivery. I bought it (no mention of extra charge to the Highlands although there invariably is) and got an email the next day offering to mutually opt out of the sale if I wanted. The surcharge to deliver to us was £125  .

We still have bare mdf-board flooring.

Drives me and OH mad too - he frequently phones up and gives said company grief - goes along the lines of - do you deliver with no surcharge to Perth / Aberdeen etc - well we're closer to Glasgow than they are so why are you charging us extra.

Having said that we're really lucky here - local postie puts stuff in shed / bin / wherever 's handiest and generally leaves note through letterbox.
