New peas and carrots

Post: # 150318Post Odsox »

An Easter dinner treat, new peas and carrots from the garden to go with our roast chicken.
Not that many but enough for a taster for the two of us.

Another one of the benefits of growing your own

You know, you can go off some people

Enjoy your dinner, they look wonderful - our peas will be out of the freezer, although the purple-sprouting and kale are still fantastic.

 Wow! Nothing's germinated yet in my garden except for tons of self seeded coriander and dill!

When did you sow those carrots Tony?

My gardening diary tells me it was the 7th of November and the peas on 22nd of October.

Was that in the polytunnel? It must be pretty warm in there!

The peas are in the polytunnel but the carrots are in a mayonnaise bucket that over wintered in the conservatory and went outside about 6 weeks ago.
I hadn't tried this variety of carrot (Mokum) before but they are thickly sown and as they are stumpy they don't even try to twiddle.
Only problem is of course, the flavour is pleasant but not outstanding ... not a patch on Amsterdam Forcing.

My carrots are just peeping through and my peas are about an inch above the ground so I'll be joining you for lunch in about 10 weeks I reckon!!
