My son Rhys dislocated his shoulder playing rugby(and has had it put back into the socket) and has a hairline fracture also!!!!!
Can anyone give me natural remedies/ideas to help with the healing and bruising process please.

glucosimine and condroiten to help reapair to the cartilidge around the bone?

Larges doses of fish oil are anti-inflamitory, and i guess maybe a calcium supliment to to help the body repair the fracture

Comfrey ointment or massage oils .. gently are also good for sports injuries and bone healing...

Have a nice warm bath with a few pinchs of sea salt put into it (about three pinches should be enough). Apparently the salt helps the muscles relax. Iv had a twisted quad muscle for some time, it helps a great deal.

Also the old RICE - rest, incapacitate, compress and exercise always works. The compresses you have one bowl of hot water and one of cold and two flannels. Just put on the hot until it cools and then the cold. Hot water gets rid of the pain and cold reduces the swelling (I think its that way round any how).

I second the comfrey oil. Rub in very gently - don't massage newly injured areas.

You can put some essential oils in - ginger and black pepper are really warming. If there's any inflammation still there try a drop of peppermint.

If he's going to take supplemental calcium, make sure it's got magnesium with it.

The thing he needs to do most is keep the joint moving a little, without and excessive movements and not putting any strain on the rotator cuff muscle - this is what gets injured with shoulder dislocation. He needs to look after it really well to stop future injuries.

Thanks for all your great advice.
Rhys has been able to cope with the pain quite well and the relaxation has certainly helped, trying to get him to rest it is the main problem which we have - 16 year olds know everying!
But he realises that he won't be going on his coaching course if he doesn't rest and repair it properly (I just have to worry now about if this is going to become a regular occurrence with it dislocating every time he gets a knock)
The bruising is fantastic and every colour you can imagine, so at least it is coming out now, we will have to wait and see what the consultant says at fracture clininic about the hairline fractures and if they will need pinning or not now the swelling has started to go down.
Oh the joy of teenage boys!!(wouldn't be without the menace though)
