I've lost my other half....

So folks....

On Sunday, it will be my 1 year anniversary of my gastric bypass operation....
And apart from another 7 pounds, I've lost half of myself!!!

I started out at 18 stone last March, & now weigh in at 9st 7lb.....
OK, I know I still have to wait another 6 months for my weight to stabilise now (and yes, it could even go up a touch yet) but I feel GREAT!
I've had no back aches the last few months, I can run... altho I try not to  and I can buy clothes in normal shops! Altho I don't... well, not many anyway.

OK, it's not very 'ish' but as I've dumped the weight forums, I needed to celebrate somewhere, so here we are!!
Yeah, there's a few saggy bits, but not half as much as I thought there would be & at nearly 50, what would I expect anyway?

So I just thought I'd share.... and we're planning a new 'photo shoot' at the weekend, so I'll make sure to pop some pix up!

Great news, Julie. I bet you feel great. :bom: I've never been more than a little bit overweight, but I've been very unfit and unable to even walk to the end of the street without feeling out of breath and exhausted. Now I'm probably average fitness and feel fantastic  .

WOW, I'm impressed. :salute:
I always put on about half a stone over Christmas and it seems to take ages getting it off again. (still only half way there)
But nearly 9 and a half stone ... as I said WOW, you must have some stamina.

Well done honey. :hugish:

I've got a question - once you've reached your target and stabilised etc what happens? Do they remove the band, or whatever. If not, how do you stop losing weight?

Actually that's 2 questions

Well done you!

Was a bit concerned by the thread title and thought "oh no - how sad" ..but then - why would it be in health and beauty...?!

Awww.... thank you for all of your messages, folks.
I actually 'try' not to chat about it too much - even in person! But yep, I feel dead chuffed today - the nightmare is well & truly over, for ever!

Now, Maggie... I didn't have a band, I actually had the full-on bypass op... they staple your tummy right at the top, so that new 'pouch' is the size of half a yoghurt pot.... over the first 12 months, this new 'pouch' stretches out & now I eat the same amount (no, less, actually) as my 5 yr old granddaughter. then the outlet pipe is joined to the bottom of the new pouch & re-routed further down the intestinal tract, meaning that you don't absorb calories, fat, etc like you did before.
The problem with having a band, is taking it out after - everything is just going to go back to how it was... also, if the weight problem is due to the body hanging on to every calorie, then the band won't be as effective, because you're still taking calories on board.

Yes, I take a good multi-vit every day & I have to be conscious of eating proteins first when I have a meal, instead of filling up on carbs, but it's virtually impossible to lose 'too much'...my body will settle by itself at about 18 months - so I still have 6 months to go.
I'm losing about a pound every 3 weeks now - in the beginning, it was over a stone in the first 2 weeks!
Also, on the plus side, I had my gall bladder removed at the same time - now for the 4 years before the op, THAT was absolutely caning the pain, & I'd learnt to live with it, so yet another positive!

Yes, drastic measures indeed - the alternative was to battle for the next 13 years as I had been doing for the previous 13 years - and I didn't want to be a size 24 when I was 60..... or 50, even!

Pix coming up tomorrow or Friday, folks!
