ok we've all heard of mooncups by now (ad yes i have jumped on the bandwaggon and ordered myself a femmecup)... but has anyone ever heard of these little things?!

I loved my mooncup (had to get rid after getting pregnant and my period hasn't come back yet) and I'll most probably get one again.
These jam fingers ( ) only last a year compared to mooncups lasting ten... will research more when aunt flo returns!

You must have to be really organised with these things! I can't imagine washing out cups at work or public loos?????

You just carry a bottle of water with you, which I usually have on me anyway. You don't need to wash them out with soapy water everytime.

Mrs F be careful re TSS or other infections, I don't see why homemade version should present anymore risk, but you don't want to use anything that might break apart or harbour nasties. The idea of i einserting anything fibrous (even if it's organic cotton) just makes me feel icky these days, so I won't be investing.

That doesn't sound very hygenic! I'd be worried about all sorts of nasties.........

It's the official mooncup advice - so long as you wash your hands before you take it out (which anyone who uses a tampon ought to do too) there's no problem. You take it out, rinse it out and reinsert it, where are the nasties going to come from? Obviously if you are at home you can boil it to sterilise as often as you want.

The description said that it slowly slides down when full... sounds like a recipe for disaster!

There are certain environments that TSS and others love, tampons are the risky option. Here's the link that advises about TSS and the Mooncup http://www.mooncup.co.uk/menstrual_cup_faq.html#TSS.

To be honest, if you were really worried about nasties then the only way to go would be pads... reusable (as in washable) of course!
