Hi,
i am soon to be moving into a static caravan, and i am really keen to install a log burner.
i have found a fantastic burner suitible for the van but have absolutly no idea how to remove the gas fire and fit the log burner. having searched the net for tips and come up with nothing. if anyone has any tips, advice or knows of any web sites which will point me in the right direction, i would be most greatful to hear from you.

I've no idea really. The same principles will apply no matter where you're fitting one surely.

I would imagine the biggest problem would be the weight - not only of the woodburner, but it needs to go on some sort of heatproof plinth for safety.

But I think cutting a hole for the chimney would be relatively easy - compared to through brick or stone.

Removing the gas fire is easy enough as long as you get a blanking plug for the gas line, otherwise you won't be able to use other gas equipment (assuming you have a gas stove), and if it's like mine then you will have a small flue hole in the roof that you either need to blank off or enlarge for the wood burner chimney.
Can't help with the wood burner installation though, sorry.

Unless you have experience or know what you are doing I would strongly advise you not to attempt to modify your existing gas system.

I have seen the devastation exploding butane can cause and I don't want to be reading about you in the news.

My hubbie lived in a static previously - he fitted a normal woodburning stove no probs. Just get a really small one or you'll be sitting in a t shirt with the windows and doors open. He put 3 large slabs on the floor (took the load nae bother) and fitted mineral? sheeting to the walls around where the stove went (fireproofing), cut a circular hole in the roof and stuffed the flue through - large rubber gasket round the top on the outside - lots of silicon and jobs a good'un.
We had no issues with the loading and the floor was pretty rotten by the time we moved out - when he did move out he dismantled the whole thing and flogged the stove, flue pipe, minerite? sheeting etc on to someone else who needed it.
