Fire Extinguishers

I am in the process of establishing the safety equipment requirements for a charter angling vessel under the Small Vessel Code MGN 280.

I need some advice on extinguishers and hope there might be an expert out there!

The British Standard for portable extinguishers is BS EN 3. Can anyone advise if an automatic extinguisher that is fixed in an engine compartment is considered portable and therefore comes under BS EN 3? OR is there another BS for this type of extinguisher?

Thanks

As it is such a specific regulation, I would suggest you ask your local chandler or try a specfic boating website/forum

I would think that the extinguisher, being part of a moving vehicle/vessel,would be classed as being portable.

Thanks for replies,

This type of extinguisher will often be used as a fixed extinguisher in an office to protect expensive electronic equipment so will not move. In this case the gas FE 13 might be used as it is fairly safe to humans. I will be contacting fire extinguisher suppliers when they return to work on Monday.
