Hello all,

It's such a long time since I've been on the forum, and in the meantime the majority of my selfsufficientish/ eco friendly ideals have fallen by the wayside! how poor is that? My lovely greenhouse is currently homing 2 new bikes (for my husband and I as we intend to cycle to work just as soon as the weather improves). As such I can't get into the greenhouse to do the seasonal tidy up that is so desperatly needed! I need to get a bike store so I can reclaim my greenhouse. I've been so busy doing coursework and with work that (I work full time and study part time) that I haven't been able to get into the garden and do the tidying that needs doing in order to have things ready for spring... I'm way behind with all my jobs! :pale:

Well, I thought it about time I pulled my finger out, and ok I'm not going to turn eco warrior overnight, but the New Year is coming, and I need to gain sight of my goals again! So while I'm off over christmas I'll clean the greenhouse and the garden, and sort out my old seeds from last year (will they still be usable this year?). Hopefully I'll be back as an eco queen in the new year.

Best wishes for a wonderful christmas for all of you!

Lou :santa:

BTW: A great 'anti disposable fashion' website is www.whatsmineisyours.com the idea is instead of throwing your old clothes out, you swap with someone on the site, it's free to use and is great! I'm addicted!

We all get years/decades/weeks/months/hours like that when life gets in the way of our best intentions. I would not worry about it sounds like you will start next year with a good attitude and if it doesn't work out the way you planned next year there is always the year after that!

Wot Andy says!

I too have been absent for a while. New job and all that. Garden is a mess. Still doing what I can and will begin 2009 with gusto! At least you have a greenhouse - mine got trashed with high winds and now I have a glass infested lawn to deal with :(

Roll on 2009!

My OH bought me the greenhouse early last year, it's full size but all the panels are made from plastic. It's great. It works really well and gets super hot in there with a bit of sun, but the panels seem to be more windproof and stuff... also with 2 crazy dogs in the garden it helps to have something unbreakable.

Just to update though, my 2009 seems to have started off well... so far I've ditched a large majority of my chemical based household cleaners for vinegar and bicarb, replaced my others with Ecover, and started making some of my own cosmetics out of household products... way hey. I know we're not far into the year, but hopefully I can keep up with the good work!

sounds like a great start to the year :)

it got me thinking though, especially as we're having a HUGE clearout at the moment, is it better to chuck out the products we don't want to use, or to use them up? which has least environmental impact, or is it much the same?

If you just chuck 'em, you'll need to use summat-else, albeit environmentally-friendly, to do the job they would have done. So I say, use 'em, sparingly, then convert to better stuff.

I used up the ends of all mine and just didn't replace them with the EVIL products again.
