I got some F1 hybrids from B+Q last year, but only one out of 20 germinated... I wouldn't bother again, just get runners from existing plants instead.

Soon as the soil dries up you will be getting some plants off me don't worry about that, I have not forgotten.

Sleepyowl - is that me? I would be grateful  I was give a poly-bag of runners from a friend in autumn and they vanished (possibly in a 'clear the junk out of the garden' frenzy)

If it wasn't me, don't worry, about time I bugged said friend for a coffee again anyways

One of my kids dropped a strawberry in the garden last summer. I now have 20 plants coming up!

Davy,
As others have said its not worth growing from seed, I did it too and had about 3 plants from 24 seeds. Much better to get some off a friend.

Davy,

I'm in Galway, so can pack you some plants up in a couple of weeks - we've been left with 3 half barrels which are filled with weeds & strawberries... when I get round to sorting them, I'll happily pop some in the post to you if you let me have your address by PM.

They've survived the frosts & look quite happy & healthy in their barrels too! :flower:

Shell, you're not too far either - do you want some plants from my barrels? I've got a fair few, & I only need to keep about a half dozen this year..... If you PM your address, I'll send you some in a coupla weeks when I send some to Davy.

And tell your OH, that strawberries, are NOT weeds!!

I've banned my hubby from even walking in a certain area - I found a rhubarb crown! So I popped a car tyre over it & now it's safe - ok, it's not anywhere near where I would have planted rhubarb, but I'm not disturbing it as it seems quite happy where it is

my cousin has got strawberries of the "April" variety and apparently those straws are a similar size to those in the shops.
