Have any of you ever thought that some people live to state the obvious?

I am getting some chuks soon, they are on hold because of bonfire MONTH and as it is now popular to lay seige to the neighbourhood on new years eve with fire works also i have decided i dont want my chuks frightend out of there tiny minds so will now be getting them in January.

This gives me lots of time to get ready, building, fox proofing etc...

But i am getting sooooo fed up with people who by the way think eggs and chuks come from T***o giving me advice, souch as, you cant have a cocklel on a housing estate you know! you will have to make the run fox proof! you will have to lock them in at night! you can feed them just on scraps from the kitchen i will start saving ours for you!

At this point i should tell you that i grew up on farms and have been around livestock all my life, untill we moved to this house 10 years ago so oddly enough i have some idea about keeping chuks and other farm related animals.

I feel like a fish being told how to swim by a cat.

I think you should get them sooner rather than later. They won't be in the least bothered by fireworks if they're well settled on the perch before the noise starts, and POL pullets bought now might just start laying before and through the winter. Leave it a month or so, and you are unlikely to get your first eggs before the spring, so you will be feeding them without any return. In that case it would be better to wait until spring before getting your new stock, which will give you plenty of time to get their living (and scratching) quarters organised.
