My local council is running a waste free week I've signed up to do it. what with small children and one in nappies and two dogs who produce their own never ending supply of unusable crap! I thought that it might be a good challenge.
I even got a free shopping bag for signing up.

Good for you. But I wonder how many people will just save up their rubbish and put two lots out next week?

I was just wondering the same thing. Do I do it on a regular basis because I only put the bin out every 3-4 weeks, when it's full.
Nice to get a bag though.

I do think that they are trying to get people to take an honest look at their waste, it would be a bit suspect if they weighed their rubbish at say 5kg one week and then suddenly the bin was empty. IMHO being honest about it is the only way that you are ever going to make people aware of the amount of unecessary waste there is.

My other half and I now put out just one carrier bag full a week, which is still too much really. I have realised that almost all of it consists of used tissues, but I currently cannot think about using hankies, it still seems too gross with all the bogies!!

Sometime soon, I want to try an experiment to see how much I can reduce my waste in one week. I already do a lot of recycling and reusing of materials, but I wonder if I could get my family's weekly waste down to or close to zero.
