bird food
bird food
have been waiting patienty for the corn kenals to fill out. best lot of corn I've ever grown - good long cobs, no gaps, no grubs went to check how it was going and the birds have been in and torn the husks off to get at the corn. over half has been destroyed.

Sorry about your loss Nick, will you still have enough to be useful to you and your family? I guess that's part of being self-sufficientish - planting some for you and some for the wild critters that will eat them - I'd rather have the birds and half my crop, than no birds at all.....
Just my take on things.

As children we used to go and see a mynor bird at the pet's corner in the park near to my grandparents - great fun!! It used to talk to us and we thought it was brilliant.
Obviously not so brilliant if they are scoffing so much of your corn though eh!
Did you put up any deterrants to stop the birds eating the corn?

G'DAy Nick,
Sorry to hear about the loss, I understand the frustration........
Have you tried recycling CDs by hanging them from fishing line around your crop? It works for pigeons......

this is the first year they have 'broken in' to the garden. they are usually happy with a good lot of figs so I didn't even consider putting somthing up to stop them. the mynor birds would probably look at whats going on and go in for a feed anyway - they steal the cats biscuits when he's less than a cats jump away if his back is turned and the dogs too old to chase them anymore.
Fair enough mate,........................shotgun, maybe?
