The site has been reacting very slowly, and sometimes not at all, since last night. Is it me, or is anybody else having problems? Everything else seems to work fine here...

It's not just you - site took ages to load and I had to log on manually (as opposed to automatically).

yep, slow for me too - but others are too, I think the whole web is suffering to some extent. There seem to be some big Malware players out there that are causing havoc

the site was moved last night to another server and this caused some unexpected problems.

also the domain is also getting battered by spam and bots looking for security holes, which should not normally be a problem, just selfsufficientish.com is big and getting bigger.

a few months ago selfsufficientish.com was in a block of flats (shared hosting) and was suffering, it was then moved to a small cottage with a garden (a Virtual machine) which gives us much more control.

The next step is I will buy the cottage next door (a Virtual machine twice the size) that will give us a bigger garden (memory) and bigger shed (hard drive space).

I like that, it makes it easier for us techo numpties to understand. Maybe eventually we will have that Ish Island we've always wanted!
