New & Young

Post: # 118790Post ~Chelsey~ »

Hello all.
I stumbled across this site and found the advice given so valuable.

Unlike many of you, No offence but I feel very young! (I'm 16)
I'm looking to making my living a more eco friendly one, I've already started growing some veg, but have wished to take it alot further.

None of my family are too concerned, But one more person is better than one less.

But I thought I'd say hello, And be kind, I'm Ickle

Hi Chelsey
:wav:

You've found the perfect place to share your enthusiasm. You say you've started growing your own veg - have your family started eating any of it yet? My partner wasn't interested in anything that grows until he tried home-grown veg. Now, although he's still not interested in getting involved in growing it, he's very enthusiastic about me growing it . I'm more than happy with that arrangement :flower:

Don't worry too much about your family not being 'too concerned'. An eco-friendly lifestyle starts with one person finding out what they can do for themselves. Other people get involved when they notice something interested going on. Many people believe that going eco means giving up the things they enjoy, which is not the case. It's about doing things for yourself and it is so fulfilling, and the satisfaction you get from it is (slowly) contagious.
Rosey xx

Don't worry, we were young once, too

Welcome to the site. I think that's the great thing about this, that there's such a wide range of ages. We can all learn from each other, can't we! And you are much further on in your "greenness" than I was at that age - I was just beginning to be aware of environmental problems... Much more interested in getting a motorbike at that age.

New and not so young....

Hello Everybody

Joined this morning after reading up on caterpillars on broccoli. Have been left home alone by partner and son for a couple of days - we should have flown off to France yesterday for our annual hol but partner's job looking a bit iffy so we cancelled. Guess thats our bit for the environment too! (We did go by train last year at my insistence - only the cheap air fares were too much to ignore this year). Spent yesterday evening and this am. picking off caterpillars and tending the two little raised beds we have.

ps when is the sun coming back? would like to go camping at the end of this week but forecast is looking dreadful.

I think I'm a rarity for my age!
but I guess it too buckles to down wanting something instantaneous and cheap.

I haven't grown much yet, they do seem to enjoy it but also arn't too fussed.
As I do the cooking, I may have to make a point of making my ingredients the "centerpiece" of the meal. =] although as I'm a vegan and they are very much comnivours and like it ready to go and cheap I don't think I can get them thinking too selfsufficiently :geek:

I'm also aware of the amount we recycle, (If only though our council would provide bigger recycling bins!)
