Our friend Geoff is having problems as are others on the same site, with badgers eating and damaging crops.Any bright ideas to put them off without harming them? are there any smells or stuff they just hate?

Can't say I've had this happen to me, but as badgers have very poor eyesight there is no point in trying visual deterrents.
But as they have good noses and are close relatives of our domestic dogs, may I suggest something that deters dogs, pepper type powders or strong smelling liquids like Jeys fluid.

i have badgers living in my fields and woodland,i have been able to let badgers have the woodland and one field to forage in but at the same time keep them out if the veg garden and cow field by using the white tape electric fencing designed for horses set low to the ground. this system has worked for several years the badgers are quite used to it and have plenty of space to forage, and the cows have remained TB free even when neighbours cows have been affected. in the winter when the cows are in buildings and the veg garden is not very exciting the fence is removed and the badgers have access all areas. after snow falls it is very interesting to see where they travel
