I was down at my allotment yesterday and noticed that some of the wild blackberries look ripe. Is this possible? I thought it was far too early?! Or are they just looking ripe but actually not?

Just looking in my Ish Bible and my Collins Gem Food For Free - they suggest blackberries are ripe any where between June-September - so I guess so!
Lucky you - I've not spotted any yet

Squish one between you fingers. Is it soft? Eat 'em. Is it hard? Leave 'em for a few more days.

Fantastic! I have had one or two but not many on the bush I planted this year!

Hope lots next year.
We do have loads of wild ones near by might have a trip out to see how they are doing, as I like my blackberry jam.
P.S. Love the avatar! Dont you love camping.

I think these blackberry bushes are years and years old so probably not surprising that they look fairly abundant fruit wise.
The avatar was taken the morning we left for Glastonbury! We had camped in a campsite about half an hour from the festival site so we could get there first thing. Best time ever.

I went to the plot this morning and completely forgot to pick my blackberries! Doh.
Still no news about the move, one minute its not happening, the next it might be (we are now waiting to here again....for the third time whether they will give us the pub or not!). So I'm carrying on as normal for the time being.

My plants aren't anywhere near ready yet but I did see some by the side of the road that looked like they were ripe. I wasn't about to try them though as they were too close to a busy road.

We've got brambles growing all around the perimiter. Some were invading the back yard and I had to cut them back, the rest I'm trying to train onto the fence. Lots of flowers, no berries yet. Everything is later up here.
