hello all!
i have been thinking for some while now about making a diy wind turbine, i have been searching the net and found alot of infomation useful, but, im still trying to piece everything togehter.
i have found that you need an alternator/generator thats turned by the turbine blades in the wind, i know that it needs to be a permanant magnet generator and have a rough understanding how to build one, but its the wiring of copper coils that im hazy about. and also i know you need a charge controller to protect the battery from over charging, and to 'dump' the excess power to another source when the battery is charged.

my question is can anyone tell me or give me a good website on how to make all these things, im not going to use the turbine for alot this one is just a trial run to see how easy it is.

I looked at home wind power a while ago, despairing of being able to afford a commercial turbine. These are the more promising links I found;

Then I stumbled on Motorwave which makes very cheap turbine sets, and I decided that if I do start playing with wind, I'll save myself the trouble of making my own turbine by getting a rack of these.

Hi Jay,I looked into building a wind generator from scrap.As I love building things and saving money but one still has to buy a lot of bits.Unless one had them lying around.I then saw a 300w wind generator at Navitron for 225 pound with a built in controller,without tower.So I decided why bother as this would be far more efficient and reliable option.
