Can I humbly request an exception to the complete dislike of the US and A? Plenty of us here are sick of the way things are going, too, and we can't afford to move away and don't wanna leave our families :)

-Packaged food with paragraph-length ingredients lists
-Road rage
-Morbid obesity
-Giant factories and anything made within
-Cigarettes
-Nukes
-Factory farms
-Synthetic biocides
-Yeah, 90 percent of us can go, as far as I'm concerned :) But we Selfsufficientishers can stay!!

Capital. Particularly its power to purchase the worker as well as the machinery and raw materials. Is 10/24ths of a person's day really worth that little? Or in the case of the CEO, that much?

Consumerism. Particularly the way it deceives and deludes the worker into thinking the capitalist sleight of hand is working in his or her favour. It isn't - their only source of material goods and trinkets is the income gained by finding a buyer from among those who control the capital. The only way out is to reject selling yourself by rejecting the trinkets.

Hmm, must be in full-on anarchist or Marxist mode tonight!

I knew nothing about it. In fact I wasn't really aware of its existance until last night when watched that Bill Oddie program about wild life photography. So I really wasn't aware of how devastating its production is. Nor was I aware of how commonly it occurs in the stuff we use every day. Suffice it to say - it is something we'll be checking for on ingredients lists and avoiding. We just have to hope that it doesn't occur in something we really need like Chris' medication.

And Milims - as to palm oil: I think it's not the stuff as such that is so awful, it's the quantities produced and used in all sorts of places where it isn't necessary. I wouldn't be too worried if it's in an essential medication; those would be tiny quantities.

LOL - well said ina. I very, very rarely wear skirts and I've had no complaints thus far!

I've only worn them once or twice meself, and near as I can tell, the hariy look is not "in"!

Fortunately Mrs Wombat will wear short skirts for me!

those are the ones, yes

Its also because there's too much of a health risk wearing them - if the nurse were to drop a needle, it could quite easily go through the holes and into the foot.

I've been given training on what to do with a needlestick in the foot - and its not nice, or pretty, or pleasant in any way! The hand is bad enough!
