Difficult in that you find it disgusting or difficult that you wish you smoked too?

Difficult in that it's a constant temptation, knowing that baccy, etc, is in the house. I don't wish i smoked now (i've had quite enough nicotine after nearly 40yrs!), but it's still a bit like the ol' water torcher, all the same.

In the ninetys the company i was workink for brought in a no smokink policy!
Also they engouraged all smokers to give it up!
They started in house with the local orthority and gave counciling about giving up smoking.
As a smoker i wanted to give it ago but dew to the nature of the work i was doing, most of the time i could not attend.
The first time i could get there i found alot of people who just wanted a skive, especially when there was someone there to help then, but they just took the proverbial! and did'nt give a monkeys!
on my 1 encaounter, i got on with the people, just as well it was the only time i had chance to get there.
IThey told me, the most time u crave for a smoke is when u are having other stimulants like: Tea,Coffee & the worst Alcohol. Basically only drinking Fruit Juice or Water helps!

My other half has gone for an e-cig which is an electronic cigarette, they work on a vapouriser concept they supply you with a liquid nicotine substance you can get many different flavours of these, Rich recommends cream, coconut, black tea & Marlboro, they come in different strengths (the liquid that is), the devices themselves look like pens & they have an LED that lightrs up when you take a drag. It seems to be doing the trick as he hasn't had a cigarette in weeks.
I went cold turkey fromn 40 a dat & that was 10 years ago. It wasn't easy but I made it good luck to you.

The e-cig sounds interesting. How much do they cost?

I managed to quit three weeks ago, with the help of the whyquit.com site. i learnt a lot, as I decided the only way to quit was to understand nicotine addiction (I always over-research thigns) and there are loads of articles on the site, plus 2 main free e-books about quitting. It does initially come across a bit strong, but it makes sense.
For example I learnt that nicotine cravings only last around three minutes. I didn't believe it either but after three days (how long it takes for nicotine to leave your body) I can attest to that being very true.
Also cutting down or using patches doesn't work as you're just constantly in withdrawal. There are a lot of stories on the site as well which kept me motivated whilst I went through the initial 72 hours. One which got me in particular was a picture of a man a few days before he died, who was around the same age as me but looks like a decomposing body. Very scary picture but it helped a lot.
If you want to read the story it is here but be warned the picture is not pleasant.

Overall I recommend the site to anyone thinking about quitting. Three weeks so far with not a single slip-up.

Yet Allan Carr says it is 3 weeks. How do you know WHO to believe?
Well done anyway and keep up the good work! I'm afraid my cravings lasted all day long.

Having been through it, I would say 3 days is about right and the chemical cravings do seem to be 3 minutes when you actually time then. Nicotine withdrawal skews your sense of time.
It's the triggers that are hard - getting up in the morning, leaving work etc. But once you understand it, I think that's the key to coping with it.

I think it is just different for everyone and everyone needs to find what 'works' for them (i.e. my experience last year was completely different to yours in terms of cravings etc, I found the first 3 days easy compared to later on). I've yet to find it but when I do I'll let everyone know!

Everything about that story is so desperately tragic - I hope that little boy doesn't take it up and I hope it stops other people too.

It is - Especially the fact that it all happened so quickly. That and the similar age, I think that's what makes this story stand out for me.
