Re: What is poverty?
I can only talk from my childhood experiences and we had it hard because my parents were poor. They married to escape their unhappy family lives, set up home with very little money coming in (Dad had two jobs) had poor housing but do I feel we, my sister Pat who died aged five and my older brother and I had a bad life - no, not at all. We didn't have bought toys, Dad made them and we had love from our parents who did everything they could to make homelife a happy one. Growing up I didn't feel deprived, envious at times but not terribly so, we managed okay. I guess people's expectations have changed and material things are viewed as essential now. You can have material wealth but be bloody miserable nevertheless. I agree with many points made in this topic, too many to state again, one thing's for sure - this is a mad world!
Life's a bitch and then you diet.
