There is that and many other, often dubious, reasons but I don't think religion should get in the way of the practical nature of head covering. I cover on the allotment, I covered when in the mud as an archaeologist, I cover in the rain and I covered in the dust of the desert. When you are covering though people do look at you differently.

Sometimes I do feel like shouting, "I'm not oppressed, I'm just tidy"

You are completely right Feefairy. I was trying to run before I can walk!

Decided to wash hair this evening and already feels like normal. Slowly does it.

I've been trying the softly softly approach. I used to shampoo and conditioner my fine hair and VERY sensiive scalp. Now down to every other day and alternating between just conditioner and both so cut down a lot. And my hair is no diferent but my scalp is MUCH better! The slow approach is definatly working.

I to have been covering up on the non washing days, simply to reduce the dirt getting in and (because of the wather) theheat getting out!!!
Behind every sucessful man is an fantastic woman!
Not sure who first said it or exact words but so very true!!

haven't washed my hair for 13 years!

and it is fine - don't expect it to feel like freshly shampooed hair, because it won't. Just rinse in lukewarn water from time to time, when ever it's feeing a bit grubby really.

it is very liberating.

That's gorgeous hair!! Really really gorgeous hair!!

I managed to go 6 days without washing mine, but then the itching got too much. I think i should take some of my own advice. I'm going to try to not wash it for a few weeks at a time, so hopfully, i should only be washing it when i dye it!

I decided to go conditioner only after I first read this thread. Its been about a week and a half, my hair has a couple of greasier patches, but its not too visible. Nobody's said anything yet.

But, what is there seems to be getting stickier. My comb looks like I've been playing in a chalk mine. Is there something else I should be doing on my road to easy-care hair?

VSS, your hair is beautiful! My German grandmother always said a woman's hair is her crowning glory, didn't wash her strawberry blonde locks (which we thought was gross when we were kids), and had a beautiful head of hair as well. She always got mad at me when I cut my hair. Mine's about halfway down my back now, but not fine at all, thick and coarse like a horse tail. But, since I quit washing it last April, it's the healthiest it's ever been. I admit that the first few weeks of itchy head were quite difficult, but I was determined to see it through.

Cheers
